JULES CHÉRET FÊTES DE NICE. 1906.
40 1/2x27 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B+: minor foxing in margins; repaired tears in margins and image. Matted and framed.
"In 1900 Cheret abandoned lithography . . . he devoted his time to working in pastel and oil, sometimes on a large scale. He painted frescoes for the Town Hall in Paris, for the Prefecture at Nice, and for the restaurant 'La Taverne' where Steinlen also worked . . . Early in this century Cheret and his wife retired to Nice, where his painting was much in the spirit of the carnival of flowers. After 1910, his eyesight weakened, and like Degas, he became blind. He died in Nice in 1932." (Abdy p. 36). According to Broido Cheret only designed three other poster after this one. Broido 491, Riviera 157.
