Mary Ryan (1848-1914), daughter of James and Anne Ryan, left Limerick, Ireland, during the potato famine. Seeing Mary begging in Putney, Cameron employed her as a maid in London and Freshwater. While acting as saleswoman at Cameron's first London exhibition (at Colnaghi), Mary was admired by Henry Cotton (q.v.), who wooed and married her.
