JULIUS DIEZ (1870-1957) MUNCHEN INTERNATIONALE KUNSTAUSSTELLUNG. 1909.
461/2x351/2 inches. Meisenbach Riffarth & Co., Munich.
Condition B+: tears and minor losses in margins; creases in margins and image. Paper and metal hangers.
Diez was a classically trained painter who studied in Munich. He was also involved in advertising art, furniture design, mosaics, frescos, (and other wall paintings), ceramics and engraved glass. In addition to his creative side he taught at Munich's Kunstgewerbeschule and became president of the Munich Secession. Inspired by Franz Von Stuck, his images were primarily contemporary visions of classical imagery. His style for this announcement of an International Art Show is purely Bavarian; clean, well-organized and with an allegorical figure neatly set amidst columns and a lot of metallic gold ink. It is a perfect example of the Munich Secession style. DFP III 586, Plakate in Munchen 58.
