Die Woche was one of the first of the many illustrated magazines that existed in Berlin in the early years of the 20th century. Founded in 1899, it was published continuously through 1944. According to the company's own literature, the periodical condensed the weekly news (political, legal, fashion, medical, theatrical, musical etc.) into a forty page issue, aimed at saving "very busy people of the time-consuming and troublesome work" of reading multiple newspapers. Klinger designed three posters for the periodical, the other two of which are far less elaborate than this image. The a giant oak, so large and robust it is growing beyond the edge of the image, advertises the serialization of a new novel by Rudolph Stratz. Klinger 111, DFP-III 1741.
