JUPP WIERTZ (1881-1939)

A PLEASANT TRIP TO GERMANY. Circa 1935.

38 3/4x24 inches, 98 1/2x61 cm. Reichsbahnzentrale fur den Deutschen Reiseverkehr, Berlin.
Condition B+: margins trimmed off; small repaired tears at edges; minor creases in image.

An eye-catching Art Deco image in which the Hindenburg, a Lufthansa Fokker airplane and one of the ships in the Hapag Lines (three vessels representing the sophistication and modernity of German transportation technology), are proudly arrayed before the public. Wiertz has not only depicted the impressive vehicles themselves, but also a visual travelogue, taking the viewer from the soaring skyscrapers of Manhattan, past the mountains and palm trees of South America, to the silhouetted sights of Germany. This is the English version. Airline Artistry p. 31, Affiche de l'Aviation p. 133.
