JUPP WIERTZ (1881-1939) KALODERMA. Circa 1926.
66 1/2x46 5/8 inches.
Condition A. Two sheets.
Jupp Wiertz was a prolific poster designer based in Berlin. His soft mannerist style was perfect for advertising fashion and tourism, and he stood out from other German designers due to his "lightness and the surprising facility of his drawing" (Weill p. 174). Kaloderma, a brand of luxury cosmetics, was one of his major clients. Throughout the 1920s he created a series of posters for the company, each one depicting a charmingly beautiful woman, with one of their products. Here, the Christmas scene has one more character. The young lady, impeccably attired as always, is accompanied by a porter who can hardly manage all of the articles she has purchased. At the bottom, the company's special Christmas packaging is displayed.
