John was a Welsh artist active in France for most of her career. She is known for her portraits of everyday women. Her brother Auguste was also an artist, and John had a love affair with Rodin. She found her own peace working in solitude later in life. "I should like to go and live somewhere where I met nobody I know till I am so strong that people and things could not affect me beyond reason."
