Jones, Gayl (b. 1949)
Corregidora, first edition.

New York: Random House, 1975.

Stated first edition, octavo; bound in brown half cloth lettered in metallic green and pink; with the original, unclipped dust jacket (jacket lightly toned, mostly at flaps, very minor creasing at corners; tiny stain to fore edge); 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 in.

Written when Jones was only 25 years old, Corregidora was edited by Toni Morrison and quickly earned recognition as one of the most influential pieces of modern African American literature. At the heart of the novel are the experiences of enslaved Black women and their female descendants, focusing on the protagonist Ursa and her ancestral history.
