Additional Details

On June 20, Kafka wrote to Felice that "tomorrow's letter . . . is so important to me that I'd rather not send it by ordinary mail today, but registered, tomorrow" (from Letters to Felice, 1973). The letter that was sent to her by registered mail in the present envelope was written on June 21, 22, and 23, 1913. In it, Kafka explained why he could not marry her.
