Additional Details

This is the second edition of Kane's account of the Second Grinnell Expedition, the first edition issued the year prior. The 1853-55 expedition in search of Franklin also intended on proving the theory of an open polar sea. While neither goal was accomplished and Kane's ship the Advance was abandoned in the ice, the expedition would discover and map the waterways between Greenland and Ellesmere Island (Kane Basin and Kennedy Channel).
