Best known for her Native American portraits and Western landscapes, Leighton (1875-1952) was a close friend of western artist Charles Russell. Leighton attended Massachuseetts Normal Art School and Stickney School of Art in Pasadena, where she studied with Jean Manheim, and later served as Vice President of the California Art Club.
