KAWARA, ON. I WENT. 12 volumes, complete (one volume for each year chronologically sequenced from 1968-1979 as indicated on spines; includes a duplicate copy of the 1974 volume). Each volume illustrated with profusion of photographic reproductions, separated by divisional titles, of maps of cities/towns/locales, each map with a red line tracing his daily trip, and with the date of every one stamped at the bottom of each map. 8vo, publisher's grey linen, front covers and spines lettered in black; original wooden slipcase with sliding panel. Number 41 of 90 copies signed by the artist in the final volume. The total edition also includes 10 artist's proofs. The cumulative effect of the precise tracking of a decade plus of global peregrinations delineated on thousands of maps suggesting nothing so much as a 15th century Sufi initiate's wordless pilgrimage; a haunted gumshoe forever spying on their own occult footfalls; a sleepless self-reconnaissance. The second published installment of the pioneering conceptual art trilogy with I MET and I GOT UP. Fine. Brussels: mfc-michèle didier, 2007
