KEIICHI TANAAMI (1936- ) P.B. GRAND PRIX. 1968.
41x28 3/4 inches, 104x73 cm.
Condition A-: minor creases and abrasions in margins and image; hand-signed and dated by the artist in ink. Silkscreen. Paper.
Throughout his career Tanami has been a graphic designer, illustrator, animator and experimental filmmaker. He also designed album covers for the Monkees and Jefferson Airplane. In 1975 he became the first Art Director of Japanese edition of Playboy Magazine and he is currently a dean at the Kyoto University of Design and Art. This is one in a series of posters with similar imagery and it contains many recurring motifs from elsewhere in his oeuvre. A whimsical psychedelic design, this poster is both sexy and quite current with pop-culture of the era, depicting the Beatles, whose Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album had only come out in 1967. Blow up p. 85.
