first edition. The only completed part of a projected series, truncated by a financial failure that would see its author (a one-time Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania) die in debtor's prison two years after the book was published. The scarce map of the Americas includes a representation of California as an island, and the map of the Mid-Atlantic coast is detailed and attractive. Cumming, Southeast in Early Maps, 240 (the regional map); Winsor, Narrative and Critical History of America, Volume III, page 165.
