Born in New Orleans, Carter trained as both a sculptor and an environmental designer; he received a BFA from The Atlanta College of Art, Atlanta, GA, a BA in Environmental Design from Art Center College of Design and then an MFA from California State University, Long Beach. Carter's current multidisciplinary practice includes painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and design. Carter had solo exhibitions at the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach and the the Savannah College of Art and Design. His artwork is in several public collections including the Laguna Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA and the SCAD Museum of Art.
