KENN DUNCAN (1928-1986)

A suite of 5 portraits of the actor and model Joe D'Allesandro.
Silver prints, the images measuring 336x260 mm; 13 1/4x10 1/4 inches, one slightly smaller, and the reverse, flush mounted, each with Duncan's credit, the sitter's name, and the date in Jim Graham's hand in pencil on mount verso. Late 1960s.

Provenance: The Estate of Jim Graham

Graham was a member of the Council of the District of Columbia for 16 years, as well as the unflagging leader of Washington's Whitman-Walker Clinic, the largest gay men's clinic during the AIDS epidemic.

Joe D'Allesandro supported himself by modeling, most notably in short films and still photographs for Bob Mizer's Athletic Model Guild. He met Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey in 1967, who immediately cast him in the film Four Stars. He appeared in more Warhol films, including in Flesh (1968) where he played a hustler and appeared nude. The film became a mainstream hit, and D'Allesandro a popular star.
