Additional Details

TLS, 15 December 1961: "I wish to thank you ever so much for coping with the millions of details that went into our magnificent new Red Room. It is superb and you were a very generous contributor to its creation."
ANS, nd: "J. Kennedy," written in the blank lower margin of his letter to her: "If Scalamandré is a great deal more than Mr. Clark in DC--who does all of Mrs. Mellon's work & is excellent--I will use Mr. Clark, as I have to raise the money--which no one wants to give for upholstering. . . . [T]he design . . . was given to me as a present from his archives by Boudin & Jansen . . . ."
ANS, nd: "Here is a sample with number I got from Salamandre . . . to show desired thickness of yellow silk. This color isn't bad either. Also, the dark brown on the card might be good for upholstered sofa--Will you tell Mrs. P. I think we should get a new one with down back & seat cushions . . . ."
ANS, nd: "Here is color scheme for Oval Room--yellow brown & green. We will save the orange for small touches later."
AN, unsigned, nd: "For Louis XVI side chairs, either 2 or 4, I forget which. Also a silk to cover sofa must be found in this color. Send sample."
