Additional Details

Already established in Paris as a photojournalist, Kertész began to shift his focus to artistic photography in the early 1930s. Distortions, experiments with movement and shadows, and a more modernist approach to composition began to appear in his pictures. Kertész's work during this period was exhibited and published in numerous publications. His nude distortions were done on commission for "Le Sourire" in 1933. Each of the photographs he took over the course of one month depicts a single model stretched and pulled by two large circus mirrors. This is one of 4 extant prints in this size.
