It is interesting to note that, in the top image, the soldier supporting his comrade with a flag is wearing two wristwatches. This detail, which is not visible on the other print, was criticized by officials when the photograph was issued. To them, the two watches represented the soldiers as looters benefiting from the spoils of war.
