KIMBEI, KUSAKABE (1841-1934) Accordion-fold album containing an assortment of 50 colored- and non-colored Japanese photographs by Kimbei of Kobe, Osaka, Yokohama, Hakone, Odawara, Tokyo, as well as views of small village, including serene landscapes, handsome occupational portraits, beautiful geishas, picturesque harbor scenes, religious statuary, and more. Albumen prints, 8x10 1/2 inches (20.3x26.7 cm.), many with a numeric notation in the negative, and most with a printed caption label, in English, pasted below the photograph. From the Collection of Ann Kallgren, to whom it passed through her family, who were missonaries in Japan. The penciled notations were made by her great grandparent, a Methodist missionary.
