Includes 27 Typed Letters from Martin Luther King Jr., written by his personal secretary Maude Ballou, of which 10 are signed by Ballou as "Martin Luther King Jr.," or "Martin," addressed to Mary Rodell in New York, Montgomery, Alabama, 1957-59; in one of the letters, dated August 1959, King having just returned from India asks about the possibility of having an Indian translation made of "Stride Toward Freedom," citing the influence of Gandhi on his own non-violent approach to civil disobedience; 37 photographs (various sizes) of Martin, Coretta and the children, of which 26 are original, mostly informal and taken at the King home, some showing Dr. and Mrs. King in demonstrations; an envelope with 29 Kodak color transparencies of the Kings, taken by Life and Look Magazine photographer Flip Schulke; two short reel-to-reel tape recordings marked "Conversation MLK, Levison, Daves re: CBC rec. 11/18/67;" 60 file copies of King's speeches (average 6-8 pages), some with small edits and changes; two typed itineraries of King's speaking engagements, New York, 1958; a 9-page typed copy of King's famous "Drum Major Instinct" speech [February 4, 1968] with the initials "mlk s" at the bottom, possibly typed by Coretta; more.
