KOESTER LIBBY HOLMAN. 1955.
63x45 3/4 inches. Tolmer.
Condition A-: minor creases and staining in margins. Framed.
Libby Holman, one of America's best "Torch Singers", led a tragic life. She married an extremely wealthy tobacco heir in 1931, who mysteriously died a year later. This ruined her career, as she had to fight to prove her innocence. Her son, the only offspring of her brief marriage, died in 1949 at age 17 in a mountain climbing accident. It is no wonder then, that she sang the blues with a broken heart and a broken voice. This also helps to explain this poster, strictly in black and red, showing a dramatic image of the singer. The illustration style is typical of the period.
