KOICHI SATO (1944- ) THE MODERN POSTER. 1988.
40x28 1/2 inches, 101 1/2x72 1/2 cm.
Condition A: minor abrasions at edges. Paper.
Sato, who runs his own studio in Tokyo, is known for producing abstract, mysterious images using sophisticated colors and airbrushed clouds. He "brings delicate color motifs and metaphysical forms to his quietly poetic designs" (http://www.historygraphicdesign.com). He is a member of both the Alliance Graphique Internationale and the Tokyo Art Directors Club. For the seminal poster exhibition at MoMA, Sato (who also had two works in the show) presents a visual haiku, in which the message of the words is larger than the multi-colored background.
