Evere, Belgium: Art Abstrait, 1956.

Limited edition, quarto; no. 58 of 150 copies printed; text in French; illustrated with 10 color serigraphs by artists Jo Delahaut (1911-1992), Francine Holley (1919-2020), Kurt Lewy (1898-1963), Jean Rets (1910-1998), and Guy Vandenbranden (1926-2014), each signed; housed in publisher's portfolio printed in red and black, tissue guards intact; 11 x 11 in.

Founded in 1952, the Art Abstrait group brought together artists of different generations to promote abstract art in post-war Belgium. Works from the group's principal members are included in this album, accompanied by a booklet outlining the importance of abstract art as an act of resistance to the dominant figural art forms. The members of Art Abstrait "created a new universal visual language with the resources of their time, Europeans avant-la-lettre through their art." (Quoted from the Callewaert-Vanlangendonk Gallery's "Kurt Lewy and the Group Art Abstrait," 2021.)
