Founded in 1952, the Art Abstrait group brought together artists of different generations to promote abstract art in post-war Belgium. Works from the group's principal members are included in this album, accompanied by a booklet outlining the importance of abstract art as an act of resistance to the dominant figural art forms. The members of Art Abstrait "created a new universal visual language with the resources of their time, Europeans avant-la-lettre through their art." (Quoted from the Callewaert-Vanlangendonk Gallery's "Kurt Lewy and the Group Art Abstrait," 2021.)
