"In 1909, a scholarship brought Léon Carré to the Villa Abdelatif in Algiers, where he spent the rest of his life. A talented draughtsman and colorist, Carré sought to convey the emotion of the artist's vision in a blend of detail and soft pastel shades. He did a great deal of work as an illustrator, notably on 'Les Mille et Une Nuits' a masterpiece inspired by oriental miniatures" (Orientalist p. 36). He designed a handful of posters as well, almost entirely relating to tourism in Algeria.
