In 1900, for the Paris World's Fair, Chaix joined forces with de Malherbe another prominent Parisian printer (who did a lot printing for Eugene Grasset) to produce 500 copies each of two decorative panels: La Fileuse [the Spinner] and La Dentelliere [the Lace-maker]. Both images glorify the traditional craftsmanship that was one of the roots and influences of the Art Nouveau movement. In both panels the women wear traditional attire that has been reworked by Cheret to appear a little sexier. Depicted here in profile, sitting on a stool, the young dentelliere seems to be waiting for a charming suitor to appear rather than being busy at work! Broido no. 65.
