La Monte Westmoreland is a Los Angeles-based collage artist, he received an MA and MFA in collage and assemblage from California State University, Los Angeles. This homage to Catlett and Johns is a large, multi-layered example of his series of pairing of African-American artists with contemporary or historical figures - according to the artist, "in my adaptation of old master-works, the underlying humor is a condemnation of the racism that has infected our nation and mankind in general." His art works can be found in the collections of Dr. Samella Lewis, California African American Museum, and the Museum of African-American Art, Austin.
