LA THERMOGENE
46x31 inches. Demon, Paris.
Condition A.
This product, "a type of soft cotton wadding used to wrap affected areas of the body" (Medicine and Pharmacy p. 57) produces heat to help fight "Coughs, rheumatism, pains in the side, etc." Cappiello ingeniously, endearingly, joyfully and irresistibly illustrates the effectiveness of this product in the form of a green man clutching an orange heating pad to his chest, against a brown background. The heat produced by the pads not only causes the man to breath fire, but the fire actually casts a shadow behind this delighted customer! This image was so popular with the company and the public that it was reused for many different years, each time varying slightly in size, exact text and where it was printed. Cappiello 278, Weill 210, DFP-II 122, Rossi 28 [all var].
