Founded in 1868, and first edited by Bret Harte, the Overland Monthly was the west coast's answer to the literary magazines of the east coast. Dixon's first illustrations were accepted by Overland in 1893, and in 1895, he began to design both covers and posters for the magazine as well. rare.
