In 1907, after working for Sunset magazine for seven years, Dixon left San Francisco for New York. The magazine wrote the following about him, "for seven years Mr. Dixon's skillful brush and fertile brain have helped make the covers and posters and pages of this magazine so attractive as to draw comment and praise from all his contemporaries . . . that intangible thing, the spirit of the broad West, was in all of Mr. Dixon's drawings" (Sunset Magazine, November 1907, p. 83). rare.
