LAJOS MARTON (1891-1952)

LE TOUQUET / GOLF 3 PARCOURS. 1936.

40x25 inches, 101 1/2x63 1/2 cm. Alliance Graphique, Paris.
Condition B+: minor restoration and overpainting along vertical and horizontal folds and in corners; repaired tears at bottom margin and left edge, slightly into image; minor creases in image.

Ideally situated at the tip of a triangle between Brussels and Paris, Le Touquet lies just south of Boulogne on France's Cote d'Opale. Marton was a Hungarian artist who spent some time in Paris in the late-1920s and early-1930s working for, among others, DAM, the advertising agency owned by the Damour brothers. The brothers also owned the magazine Vendre, which they used as a vehicle to tirelessly promote modern graphic design and advertising. Marton's graphics are notable for their progressive, modernist, Art Deco stylization.
