Situated on top of Budapest's Gellert Hill, this "Liberty Statue" was erected in 1947 to commemorate the Soviet liberation of Hungary from the Germans after the Second World War. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, the red star and Soviet crest have been removed from the statue's pedestal.
