LAWRENCE WEINER (1942-2021)

Untitled (Drawn Over On . . .)
Typewriting and felt-tip pen and ink on photograph. 230x180 mm, 9x7⅛ inches. With a signed dedication with the inscription "with No need to know" in red ink on the backing. 1968-1978.

Provenance: Galerie Konrad Fischer, Dusseldorf; Dr. Antonio Spada, Brescia, with the ink stamp verso.

This drawing is likely from a series in which Weiner explored the concept of continuity. A similar work by Weiner from 1978, drawn and typed over a photocopy of a drawing from 1967-68 is in the collection of Museum of Modern Art, New York.

A conceptual artist, Weiner was a sculptor whose work frequently was expressed through typographic texts. He also did design work in the United States for Factory Records, designing record jackets and posters for bands like New Order and Quando Quango.
