Documentary photographer, writer, and curator Laylah Amatullah Barrayn examines the religious traditions and the experiences of women in Black diaspoiric communities..

Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions at The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco, CA., and The Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, VA. She has shown collectively at the MANIFESTA Biennale in Italy, the Brighton Photo Biennial in the UK, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, IL.Barrayan has curated exhibitions at the Ethelbert Cooper Gallery, Harvard University, The African American Museum in Philadelphia. Her work is featured in the collections of the Thomas J. Watson Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography, NY, and the Museum of Modern Art, NY.
