Group of 60 photographs of national sporting events, comprising football (23), baseball (18), hockey (5), and boxing (14) scenes. Includes the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Cubs, and various boxers. Silver prints, the images measuring 9 1/4x6 1/4 to 13 1/2x10 1/2 inches (23.5x15.9 to 34.3x26.7 cm.), most with Balterman's signature, in pencil, and some with hand stamps, on verso. 1950s-60s

Additional Details

After being discharged from the Army, Balterman returned to Chicago in the 1940s and began working as a freelance photographer for the Globe, as well as Rapho-Guillumette and Black Star agencies. A noted sports photographer who regularly shot Chicago Cubs games, his pictures appeared on the covers of Life, Fortune, and Sports Illustrated magazines.
