The photograph, bust portrait by Reisdent-Atelier, showing him in 3/4-view: "Mr. Kaufmann in warm friendship!" Inscribed in the blank margin below the image. The letter, thanking him for sending his article, hoping to visit New York, requesting that he ask Mr. Savage when The Blue Mazurka would be performed. 4 1/2x3 1/4 inches (image), 5 1/4x3 1/4 inches overall; few cracks near lower edge touching portrait, remnants of prior mounting along left edge on verso obscuring few words (not affecting signature).
