LENINGRAD. Circa 1935.
381/2x273/4 inches.
Condition B+: repaired tears, creases and minor discoloration in margins.
First constructed in 1703 during the reign of Peter the Great, the 25 acre park in Leningrad is currently known as "The Fields of Mars" (after the Roman god of war), because of the military parades and training that were held there. In the past it had been used for amusement parks and as a private park for the royal family (the Summer and Winter palaces adjoin the area). In the center of the park is The Liberty Monument, which is dedicated to the victims of the Revolution. The giant statue of Lenin in the background appears so much larger than life that it could only have been an artist's representation.
