Cachou Lajaunie is a licorice pastille that is still on the market in France, available in the same little round box as Cappiello depicted. It was with this poster that the product was introduced to the market. The image, an early one for Cappiello, is basically an enlarged caricature, composed of complimentary flat colors. Three years after the poster came out, Mr. Lajaunie wrote to his printer, Vercasson, "When you submitted the maquette of my poster by Cappiello I simply told you that I was satisfied. Today I appreciate it better still, for the originality of the design and the happy choices of colors. This poster has truly contributed to the success of my candies. In France and abroad, numerous collectors have asked me for a copy, which proves to me the favor this poster has garnered among the public and the connoisseurs." With this image Cappiello had made everyone from consumer to producer to collector happy. (Grand Palais p. 115). Rennert/Cappiello 6, Wine Spectator 202. Cappiello, 1981.
