Three of France's most important poster artists, Paul Colin, Jean Carlu and Leonetto Cappiello, were asked to design advertising for their country's 1937 World's Fair. For his poster, Cappiello personifies Arts and Technology in the form of monumental figures depicted as Art Deco statues. "Cappiello became deeply involved in the planning for the Paris World's Fair of 1937. He was named vice-president of the Publicity Department for the Fair, and as such he designed the decor for the Pavilion of Advertising, as well as preparing this poster" (Cappiello / Rennert p. 323). This is the smaller of two sizes. Cappiello / Rennert 526.
