LEOPOLD FORSTNER (1878-1936) KARLSBAD POSTHOF / EXPOSITION DES BEAUX ARTS.
37x231/4 inches. Druck A. Berger, Wien.
Condition B+: trimmed; creases in image.
Forstner studied in Vienna under the Secession master Koloman Moser and went on to become famous for his work in stained glass and mosaics. This previously un-referenced poster is one of his only known forays into the graphic arts world (he designed the title-page for the exceptional Secessionist magazine Die Flache--see Swann auction 1935 lot 2, as well as an exhibition for the Vienna Art in the Home artistic union, which he helped to found). In this elegant image, promoting an art show, Forstner conveys one of the major icons of the Secessionist movement, Athena, in an archetypical German style, with a Hellenistic influence. Not in DFP.
