18 December 1918: ". . . I want a weekly newspaper, complete plant and good will, in a town of from 1,500 to 7,000 in Minnesota, North or South Dakota . . ."
24 December 1918: " . . . Regarding the Fergus Falls Free Press: Will you be so good as to have the present manager send me a couple of copies of the paper . . . As to my own status, you may possibly already know of me as a steady contributor of lead fiction to Saturday Evening Post, Metropolitan Magazine, et al . . ."
3 January 1919: "The news about the papers in Long Prairie and Brainerd is distinctly interesting . . . Normally I write short stories and sell them at once, but all of these are bigger things, all written last year, and just now going through . . ."
20 February 1919: "I've just returned from New York, where a play of mine, 'Hobohemia' is being put on . . . This play has balled up all my plans . . ."
