Lewitt and Him were both born in Poland and met as young graphic designers. In 1933, they founded the Lewitt-Him studio, they emmigrated to England in 1937. Deeply inspired by Surrealist painting, their work often played with words and images. The series of posters they did for American Overseas Airlines in the late 1940s is considered among their best work. International Poster Annual 1948-49 p. 47.
