Lincoln," as President, requesting that Judge Edwin Beecher be appointed Paymaster when the position is available, 6 lines written vertically on terminal page of letter to him. The letter, recommending Beecher for Paymaster and noting that "his physical disability--that of near-sightedness--disqualifies him from taking the field in active service," signed by 10 of Beecher's friends including prominent Illinois politicians: Governor Richard Yates, Secretary of State Ozias M. Hatch, Treasurer William Butler, Representative Shelby Moore Cullom, and others. 1 page, 4to, with integral blank, ruled paper; docketing in red and black ink on terminal page (not affecting endorsement), minor soiling at folds.
