Also included on page 3 is the text of the proposed Corwin Amendment to the Constitution, which would have banned future amendments "which prohibit or interfere within any State with the domestic institutions therein, including that of persons held to labour or servitude." This last-ditch effort to keep southern states in the Union by enshrining slavery was actually ratified by five northern states, but never went further.
