Additional Details

Levi Ward Smith (d.1863) served in the NY State Assembly, 1849-50, and as Adjutant-General for NY Governor Washington Hunt, 1851-52, before becoming a Protestant Episcopal minister. Smith was appointed Hospital Chaplin in March of 1863, taking charge of the military hospital at Germantown, PA, only to perish from disease 9 months later.
