Additional Details

a scarce piece of Republican political ephemera charging that the Democrats, despite allegations that Republicans are the "Party of negro equality," have themselves been the chief supporters of measures to enfranchise Negroes. "Who gave the Negroes the rights of suffrage in New York? The Democratic Party. Who married a Negro woman, and by her had mulatto children? Richard M. Johnson, a good Democrat" and Martin van Buren's Vice President. The text goes on in this vein, an early example of political "dirty tricks." Resurrected during Lincoln's second campaign. Scarce. OCLC locates 3 copies, the Library Company of Philadelphia cites 2 other printings.
