LISA DUNCAN. 1927. 47x311/2 inches. H. Chachoin, Paris. Condition A: minor creases in bottom right margin. An exceptional and rare image of a lithe dancer graphically entwined and outlined by a grand piano. After the tragic death of Isadora Duncan (who strangled to death when her long scarf got tangled in the wheel of her Hispano-Suiza) her sister Lisa took over their prestigious dance company. The sisters were masters of Interpretative Dance and Colin has, in turn, interpreted Duncan in a masterful manner. Balancing her on the title of the poster, he depicts her using graceful, soft tones, but employs a strong black shadow to show the movement of her right leg. In a neo-cubist, sculptural style, the dancer's limbs reflect the influence of tribal art on the image, which reflects the fact that Colin begining to collect such African art around this time. One of Colin's purest Art Deco images. Later printings of this poster have removed the pianist from behind the keyboard.
