In 1928, El Lissitzky was commissioned to design the Soviet Pavilion for the Köln International Press Exhibition. The result was an impressive integration of typography, photography, sculpture, architecture, and graphic design. This photograph depicts one of Lissitzky's sculptures which utilizes Soviet magazine covers which show not only the strong influence of photomontage but the importance of the picture press in Soviet culture.
