Painted during Goff's first period in New York City, when he often worked on Long Island. From this point in the 1930s, the theme of the forces of nature became a common subject of many of his paintings. In the upper right is the famous German zeppelin Hindenburg on one of its Trans-Atlantic trips in 1936-37.
