LOÏS MAILOU JONES (1905 - 1998)
Mme. Feugeront à Cabris, AM.

Watercolor on wove paper, 1950. 457x584 mm; 18x23 inches. Signed, dated and inscribed "Cabris, France" in watercolor, lower right.

Provenance: the artist, with her hand-written label on the frame back, (supplying the title); Carey Ellis Company, Houston, with the label on the frame back; private collection, Georgia.

Jones painted many colorful landscapes around the sunny and craggy hills of this picturesque medieval town. Cabris is in the Alpes Maritimes of the south of France and was the hometown of her close friend Céline Tabary, and where Jones and Pierre-Noël married in 1953. She originally visited the town in 1937 during her first year of studies in Paris, and returned numerous times over a period of some 50 years.
